A Glimpse by a Passer-by

Delmonico’s — America’s first fine dining restaurant, established in 1827 by Italian-Swiss brothers Giovanni and Pietro Delmonico. What began as a small café and pastry shop became one of New York City’s most luxurious dining institutions. Located at the iconic corner of Beaver and William Street in Manhattan, the Renaissance Revival-style building carries nearly two centuries of history.

When I took this photo, I was first drawn to the building’s location and architecture—only later did I discover its incredible story. This is why I love New York City: every corner, every structure holds a piece of the past that shaped this nation.

Standing in front of Delmonico’s, I reflected on the strength and perseverance of immigrants who came here from all over the world. Their legacy, brick by brick, has built the foundation of the world’s most powerful democracy.
